Group discussion at the 5th Annual FIU Women Faculty Leadership Institute

The 5th Annual FIU Women Faculty Leadership Institute brought together 65 faculty from 10 colleges and schools along with the Provost’s Council for the Advancement of Women and Minority Faculty to identify goals to enhance hiring, promotion, equity and leadership opportunities for women and minority faculty at FIU.

The full day conference featured Keynote Speaker, Dr. Susan Basow, the Charles A. Dana Professor of Psychology, Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, who reviewed the research on Gender Bias in Teaching. Following the morning session, the Provost’s Council for the Advancement of Women and Minority Faculty at FIU discussed steps that have been taken in the last year, and then facilitated interactive small group discussions to make suggestions for the Council to bring to the Provost.

The Council continues to bring their recommendations about equity and advancement to the Provost in order to establish an Office for the Advancement of Women and Minority Faculty.
