Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering, and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent. Students can:

  • Network with world-class professionals, educators, activists and scientists
  • Expand knowledge of your major field of study
  • Expose oneself to new areas of basic and applied research
  • Interact daily with assigned mentors who guide research activities
  • Transition classroom theory into hands-on experience and helping solve today’s pressing scientific questions

School-wide Internships

Center for Children and Families

Students with an interest in applying for Summer internship opportunities in the FIU Center for Children & Families will register for PSY 4930 Special Topics in Psychology: ADD Clinical Practicum (3 credits) after being selected for the internship position.

Center for Women's and Gender Studies

The Internship opportunity calls for supervised work experience in organization agency or business focuses on women and/or girls. Students must have permission of the director and must have completed at least one Women’s Studies course prior. Internship opportunities are available at FIU, the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County among others.

Counseling Psychology Masters Program Internships

From the application process to interviewing and obtaining liability insurance, you can prepare yourself for the counseling psychology internship.

International Forensic Research Institute

Internships are available at the Crime Laboratory Bureau, Metro-Dade Police Department, DNA Laboratories International, Inc., Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Laboratory, Medical Examiner & Trauma Services, Broward County Commission, Southeast Laboratory, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U. The Department of Philosophy is in the process of creating a variable 1-6 credit internship course for Philosophy majors. Partners include: Locust Project, Dan Marino Foundation, Riviera Preparatory School and Bass Art Museum. The Physics Department offers ISC 4947, Entrepreneurial Science Internship, intended for Physics BA students with a strong physics background and skill set for starting and growing new high-tech business ventures. Some paid internships include the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship and The National Energy Technology Laboratory. NSF also funds research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU sites program.


Students interested in completing an internship for credit should register for PSY 4941 (1-3 credits) Independent Field Experiences in Psychology, with permission from the professor. The number of credits one registers for is based on the number of hours completed at the placement site.
